BetaList alternatives for pre-launch and beta products
BetaList is now paid only and takes pre-launch or just-launched startups. For a beta, PitchWall welcomes alpha and beta products and has a free plan, and Launching Next lists side projects for free. Product Hunt, Peerlist Launchpad and Show HN fit once people can try the product. MegaLaunch fits after launch, not before.
MegaLaunch publishes this page and is one of the options. Facts checked on 24 Oct 2026, sources below. How this page was checked

Which BetaList alternative fits your stage?
BetaList describes itself as the place where early adopters discover upcoming and recently launched startups1, and its criteria are specific: Not yet available, private beta, or launched within the last few weeks2. Every submission is paid1. Four things can send a maker elsewhere: the budget, prices that only appear at the end of the form, a landing page that does not meet the criteria, or a product that launched too long ago to qualify.
Stage is the question that sorts the alternatives fastest. Most launch platforms expect a product people can use today, and few say anything about betas. PitchWall welcomes beta and alpha-stage products3. AlternativeTo turns down closed betas and invite-only apps4. Show HN wants something people can try now, ideally without a sign-up5. MegaLaunch’s moderation policy turns down waitlist and placeholder offers. The others state no stage rule on their pricing or submit pages, so ask before you pay.
Then name the outcome you want from this round. Collecting waitlist emails, recruiting ten testers who will report bugs and announcing a public launch are three different jobs. A pre-launch page needs a place that accepts one; a beta needs readers who like trying unfinished software; a launch needs a day or a week of attention and a product that survives the first visit.
12 BetaList alternatives compared
Each cell quotes what the platform states on its own pages, except the link type, which was read on sampled public listings. BetaList’s own row comes first for reference. Badge and link-back conditions are in the sections below. Read the stage rules above before the prices: a cheap listing that rejects your product costs you a week.

The alternatives, from earliest stage to public launch
PitchWall
Best for: An alpha or beta product that can wait a month for a free feature.
PitchWall is one of the few platforms here that says outright it takes early products: its FAQ says beta and alpha-stage products are welcome3, and every submission is reviewed by hand3. It features products daily on its homepage and mentions them in a newsletter7. The free plan comes after a minimum 30-day wait and gives one day on the homepage7, and the cheapest paid plan is Pro Launch, $49: a 2-week wait, 2 days on the homepage7.
Its submit page lists a do-follow backlink on every plan7, yet the Visit Website buttons on the listings sampled for this page were nofollow and went through a PitchWall redirect8. Choose it for the early-adopter readers, and ask which link carries the backlink if that is part of your reason to pay.
Launching Next
Best for: A free listing for a side project or an early idea, with no badge to add.
Launching Next publishes new startups, side projects and business ideas, with a newsletter every Friday9. That wording leaves room for products that are not finished, which few platforms in this list say outright. Submitting is free and the team reviews submissions every day, without a promised date10; paying is optional (A $99 upgrade: considered for publication within 1 business day10).
It asks for no badge or link back10, and the link on the listing sampled for this page was nofollow11. It is a low-effort first step for a waitlist page: submit it, then measure how many visitors leave an email rather than how many arrive.
Product Hunt
Best for: The public launch after the beta, when you can rally people on one day.
Product Hunt runs daily launches on a homepage leaderboard12, and its guide says launching is free12. Its launch pages say nothing specific about waitlists, so it fits best once people can use the product. It also asks for some planning: new accounts wait a week before posting a product30, and the guide recommends joining months ahead.
For a BetaList maker, the sequence is natural: BetaList while the product is invite-only, Product Hunt when it opens. You pick the launch day yourself12. Do not expect a link with SEO value: the product link on the page sampled for this page was marked ugc13.
Peerlist Launchpad
Best for: Builders with a verified Peerlist profile who want comments, not just votes.
Peerlist Launchpad opens every Monday and a launch runs for the week14. Only verified Peerlist profiles can launch, and the ranking counts comments, views and link visits alongside upvotes14. For a beta, that weighting is useful: thoughtful comments are what you need from early users.
Its help center does not state a price14 and gives a backlink to the top 5 projects of the week only14; the visit link on the project page sampled for this page was marked ugc15. Verify your profile well before the Monday you have in mind.
MicroLaunch
Best for: A product that improves week by week and wants 30 days of feedback.
MicroLaunch frames a launch as 30 days of visibility, ranked monthly16, with Idea, Product and Roasts scores shown on each entry31. A month-long window suits a late beta: you can ship fixes during the launch and show returning visitors that the product moves.
The paid launch is Launch Pro, $39: pick your launch date16. Neither its homepage nor its Premium page describes a free launch16, so check the New Launch flow before counting on one.
Show HN (Hacker News)
Best for: An open beta that technical readers can try in a minute, without an account.
Show HN is the opposite of a waitlist: its guidelines want something people can try now, ideally without a sign-up5, and they put sign-up pages and landing pages off topic5. If your beta is public and has a demo path, it is free and direct; if it is invite-only, wait.
Write the post as an account of what you built and why, and stay to answer questions. Expect feedback rather than SEO: on the Show HN list read for this page, some story links were nofollow and others were not18.
Uneed
Best for: A free daily launch for a usable product, if you can wait for your date.
Uneed runs daily launches19. The free option is to join the line, with a date Uneed assigns at the back of it20, and the cheapest paid launch is Fast-track, $14.99: a slot in about 14 days20.
Its link depends on votes: Do-follow from an upvote score of 20 on the free line, 10 with Fast-track20. That makes it a better fit for the launch after a beta, when you have users who will show up, than for a product nobody has tried yet.
Smol Launch
Best for: A first launch on a weekly board, paid with votes and a badge instead of money.
Smol Launch runs a weekly launch: makers submit every Monday and launches are ranked by votes and engagement22. Its free path asks for its badge on your site and votes on three other launches, and covers a product’s first launch only22; the paid tier is Premium, $19 per launch: any open week, no badge22.
The free weeks fill up: the next one shown on the day of the check was Dec 2822. Since a free path covers only one launch, spend it on the public release rather than on an early beta.
DevHunt
Best for: A developer tool in public beta that wants a launch week and a newsletter spot.
DevHunt is built for developer tools and launches them by week, with a Tuesday newsletter24. Listing is free24, and the paid launch is Launch, $19: pick your week, a newsletter spot and a dofollow link24.
Developers are demanding early users: they will try a beta if the documentation lets them reach a first result quickly, and they will say so when it does not. Launch when you can answer technical questions the same day.
Fazier
Best for: A simple listing for a usable product, if you can wait or link back.
Fazier publishes daily product listings26. Its free Basic plan is listed within 30 days and requires a backlink to Fazier26, and the cheapest paid plan is Lite, $29: publish now or schedule, no backlink required26.
The free plan’s link back is a real commitment for a pre-launch page you may redesign soon, so it fits better once your site is stable. The visit link on the three listings sampled for this page had no nofollow27.
AlternativeTo
Best for: A public beta that replaces software people already use.
AlternativeTo is where people look for a replacement for an application they know4. Its rule is clear for early products: No closed beta, invite-only or early access apps; open betas probably accepted4. So it comes after BetaList, not instead of it: once your beta is open, it can put you in front of people already searching for a change.
Free submissions wait in a review queue with no date4; the paid route is Priority review, a one-time fee shown before you pay4, which buys a faster review, not approval.
MegaLaunch
Best for: A permanent listing once the product is usable, free or paid once.
MegaLaunch is not a BetaList alternative for a pre-launch page: its moderation policy turns down waitlist and placeholder offers with no immediate usable value. It fits the step after, when people can sign up and get something useful the same day.
At that point, a Free listing goes live 48 hours after submission with a link back to MegaLaunch29, and Premium costs $4.99 one-time (excl. VAT) and goes live once payment is confirmed29. The community votes once per person and paid options never change the ranking32. Matt builds MegaLaunch, so weigh this entry with that in mind and compare the terms on the pricing page.
Is BetaList worth it in 2026?
It can be, for the product it is built for. BetaList’s FAQ says its plans differ mainly by how fast you are featured and whether newsletter inclusion is guaranteed1, and the page it publishes for agent submissions puts numbers on the speed (Lite: featured in about 14 days. Standard: about 3 days. Premium: about 1 day33). It also says a startup that is not selected gets a full refund1. Its FAQ promises a do-follow Visit Site link on every plan if you are featured1; on the listing sampled for this page that button had no nofollow and went through a 301 redirect on betalist.com6.
It is not worth it when the product launched months ago, when the landing page is an untouched template, or when you cannot say what an early user gets today. The criteria turn those down, and a refund does not give you back the week. In those cases, the free routes below cost less and teach you as much.
Where to find beta testers for free
Three routes in this list cost nothing and suit a product before its big launch: PitchWall’s free plan after its minimum 30-day wait7, Launching Next’s free listing10, and Show HN if your beta is open to anyone5. Product Hunt is free too, but it rewards a finished first-use path more than a waitlist.
A launch site brings visitors; testers come from what you ask them to do. Put one clear request on the page, such as booking a call, trying one workflow or replying to the welcome email, and count how many people do it. Ten people who finish the task tell you more than a thousand visits.
For other launch platforms that take usable products, with their queues and link conditions, see the Product Hunt alternatives compared on the same day.
Get the landing page ready before any of them
BetaList’s criteria double as a checklist for every platform here: your own domain, a design that belongs to the product, one clear way to sign up, and a sentence that says who it is for and what changes for them. A page that passes that test gives a reviewer fewer reasons to refuse it and gives a visitor a reason to stay.
Write the headline and the short description first, then reuse them everywhere. The free headline and tagline analyzer flags vague wording before you paste it into a form, and the guide to writing a launch announcement helps with the longer version.
When BetaList is still the right choice
BetaList is still the right choice when your product is not public yet and early adopters are exactly the people you want. It is built for that stage, and few alternatives say outright that they accept it. Its criteria also allow a second feature at launch, a few weeks after the pre-launch one2, which gives a pre-launch campaign a natural follow-up.
It also suits makers who would rather pay for speed than wait in a free queue: the plans run from about 14 days to about one day33, and the money comes back automatically if the startup is not selected1. If your landing page meets the criteria and the budget is there, use BetaList for the invite-only phase and the platforms above for the public launch.
Frequently asked questions
Is BetaList free?
No. BetaList’s FAQ says all submissions are paid and there is no free submission option any more. If your startup is not selected, the payment is refunded automatically; once it has been featured, there is no refund.
How much does BetaList cost?
BetaList does not publish its prices: they appear at the end of the submission form, when you pick a plan. Its own pages describe three plans by speed: Lite, featured in about 14 days, Standard in about 3 days and Premium in about 1 day.
Is BetaList worth it?
It is worth it for a pre-launch or just-launched product whose landing page meets its criteria, when early adopters are the audience you want. It is not worth it for a product launched months ago or a page built from an untouched template: the criteria turn those down.
Is BetaList legit?
BetaList publishes its submission criteria, its plans and its refund rule on its own pages, and refunds a startup automatically when it is not selected. This page does not rate platforms or collect reviews; it reports what each one states and what a sampled listing shows.
What is the best alternative to BetaList?
For an alpha or beta product, PitchWall, which welcomes both and has a free plan with a wait of at least 30 days. For a free listing with no badge, Launching Next. For the public launch after the beta, Product Hunt, Peerlist Launchpad or Show HN, depending on your audience.
Does BetaList give a dofollow backlink?
Its FAQ says every plan includes a do-follow Visit Site link if your startup is featured. On the listing sampled for this page, that button had no nofollow attribute and pointed to a BetaList address that redirects to the product with a 301.
Methodology and sources
Every fact about a third-party platform was read on that platform’s own pages on the check date: FAQs, criteria, pricing, submit and help pages. BetaList does not publish prices; the plan names and their timelines come from betalist.com/agent, the page BetaList publishes for submissions made through an AI agent. The link type was read on one to eight public listings per platform, in the page HTML or, where the site refused a plain request, in the rendered page; each sampled listing is the source of that cell.
Only PitchWall, AlternativeTo, Show HN and MegaLaunch state a rule about product stage. Uneed, Product Hunt, Peerlist Launchpad, MicroLaunch, Smol Launch, DevHunt, Fazier and Launching Next state none on the pages read for this comparison. MicroLaunch’s free launch, if there is one, could not be checked because its launch flow is behind a sign-in. Domain Rating is not shown: it could not be read on Ahrefs for every platform on the same day. Indie Hackers and Reddit beta-testing communities are not included because their terms could not be read on their own pages.
MegaLaunch’s prices are shown excl. VAT, as everywhere on its site: tax is added at checkout based on the buyer’s country. Other platforms’ prices are quoted as displayed on their own sites, which do not always say whether tax is included, so a MegaLaunch price and another price on this page may not be on the same tax basis. Compare the totals each checkout shows before you pay.
