MegaLaunch vs LaunchIt: two indie launch platforms compared

Choose LaunchIt if you want to book a launch date ahead, with a guaranteed homepage day and a newsletter feature (Premium Launch, $14.99 one-time1). Choose MegaLaunch if you want a Free listing live 48 hours after submission rather than a free slot about two months away1, or a Premium launch at $4.99 one-time (excl. VAT).

MegaLaunch publishes this page and sells Premium launches and a directory submission service. LaunchIt appears in MegaLaunch’s sponsored placements, MegaLaunch’s homepage shows a LaunchIt badge, and each site lists the other. MegaLaunch also used a LaunchIt directory report as one source for its own directory list. Facts checked between 24 Oct 2026 and 25 Oct 2026, sources below. How this page was checked

MegaLaunch vs LaunchIt at a glance

Each LaunchIt cell quotes its own pages, and its link type was read on a live listing. The MegaLaunch column is generated from its code, so it always matches its pricing page. The free rows matter most here: both sites ask for a link back on their free plan, with very different waits.

Two launch platforms with a similar deal

On paper, LaunchIt and MegaLaunch sell the same thing to the same maker. Both offer a free launch in exchange for a link from your site, both sell a paid launch that removes that condition, both keep a permanent product page after launch day, and both let the community vote. The differences sit in the waiting time, the price, the extras and the rules around paid visibility.

In its own documentation, LaunchIt describes a launch as a day on the homepage and in the Launching Now feed, followed by a permanent tool page3. MegaLaunch gives each product a permanent listing, ranked on a daily, a weekly and a monthly leaderboard2. In practice, a LaunchIt launch is built around its day on the homepage, while a MegaLaunch launch competes on a daily board and then on the weekly and monthly ones.

Pricing

LaunchIt’s paid launch is Premium Launch, $14.99 one-time1. For that price it promises the homepage all day on the date you choose, a verified badge and a highlighted card, a newsletter feature and a submission to DirPilot, a partner directory, with no badge needed on your site.

MegaLaunch’s paid launch is Premium, at $4.99 one-time (excl. VAT), live once payment is confirmed2. It removes the link back and adds a highlighted card in Premium launches today on your launch day, a feature in The weekly shortlist (MegaLaunch’s newsletter), a post on its X account during the launch week and a verified launch badge. The free plans of both sites cost nothing in money and ask for a link from your site instead.

Beside the launch, LaunchIt sells paid placements: Featured placement $39 per month; a newsletter issue $29; a written review $49; Billboard from $151. Its pricing FAQ says only Featured placement is a subscription; everything else is paid once. MegaLaunch also sells sponsored placements, listed on its pricing page, and under its rules none of them changes votes or rankings.

The free route: the wait and the link back

This is where the two differ most. On the day of the check, LaunchIt’s pricing page put the earliest free slot about two months away, while Premium could launch as soon as the next day1. On MegaLaunch, a Free listing goes live 48 hours after submission, and Premium as soon as payment is confirmed2.

If your launch is free and soon, that gap decides it. Two months is long enough for a young product to change its pricing, its name or its main feature, so a free LaunchIt slot suits a product whose page will still be accurate by then. Book it early and use the time to collect feedback elsewhere.

Both free plans ask for a link back, in slightly different forms. LaunchIt’s Basic Launch needs a backlink and one of its badges on your site, and its Premium Launch needs no badge3. MegaLaunch’s Free listing needs a link back to MegaLaunch, and Premium does not2. Check how a badge fits your footer before you submit to LaunchIt for free.

Review and going live

LaunchIt reviews every submission and lists what it turns down: poorly designed sites, duplicates, custom GPTs, spam and NSFW content3. Basic submissions are also checked for the backlink before approval.

MegaLaunch checks the link back on a Free listing before it goes live, 48 hours after submission, and publishes Premium as soon as payment is confirmed. Both sites can refuse a product that breaks their rules, so read the moderation page before you submit.

Votes, ranking and paid visibility

LaunchIt’s getting started guide is clear about what moves a launch: votes and reviews in the first hours drive homepage ranking6. Its paid Featured placement is a separate slot shown above regular launches1, and its launch documentation adds that Featured tools sit at the top of category and search results7, so expect paid products first in those lists.

MegaLaunch’s rule is one vote per person, and paid options never change votes or rankings5. Premium, Spotlight and the Billboard change how a product is presented and where it is promoted, but its votes and its place on the leaderboard come only from the community5. Premium’s highlighted card in a separate rail on launch day works much like a featured slot: it buys visibility, not rank.

For a maker, both systems reward the same work: bring the people who already use your product, answer comments quickly and keep the page accurate. The leaderboard shows how MegaLaunch launches are ranked over a day, a week and a month.

Links and Domain Rating

Both sites give a followed link. LaunchIt’s pricing FAQ says every listing links to your site with a standard dofollow link, server-rendered and permanent1, and a public listing read the same day matched it, with rel="noopener" only on the link to the product site4. MegaLaunch’s Free listing links without a nofollow or sponsored attribute2, which a live MegaLaunch listing also showed.

LaunchIt also displays a Domain Rating on its own pages. This page does not reproduce it, nor any figure for MegaLaunch, because neither could be read on Ahrefs directly for both sites on the same day. A link’s value depends on the page it sits on and on your own site; whether directory submissions help SEO explains what to check.

API and AI agents

LaunchIt runs a free, read-only MCP server that needs no API key9. MegaLaunch offers a public REST API, an MCP server and an llms.txt file8. Both let an assistant such as Claude or Cursor query listed products, which is a small but real way for a product to come up in AI answers. The MCP page shows how to connect MegaLaunch’s server, and the API documentation covers the REST endpoints.

Refunds

LaunchIt refunds a product in full if it is not accepted, and gives no refund once it is published10. A request must arrive within 3 calendar days of the rejection notice, and every other sale is final, sponsorships included. MegaLaunch’s terms for a Premium payment are on its refund policy page.

LaunchIt’s directory submission packages

LaunchIt also sells a done-for-you directory submission service, separate from launching. Its packages: Liftoff $99 (30+ directories), Orbit $149 (60+), Moonshot $199 (100+)1. LaunchIt says every submission is done by hand1, that work starts within one business day and that a package is finished in 3 to 5 business days1.

You receive a report by email with every live link, detailed on Liftoff and advanced on the two larger packages1. Its pricing page makes no Domain Rating or ranking promise for the packages and says not every submission is guaranteed1. That matches how directories work, since each one decides whether to accept a listing and which link to give.

Before buying any package, from LaunchIt or anyone else, ask for a sample report, check a few live links yourself and decide what you will measure. Measuring referral traffic covers that, and where to submit your SaaS helps if you prefer to submit yourself.

How MegaLaunch’s directory service compares

MegaLaunch sells a directory submission service too, so this part compares the two on the same criteria. For about 100 directories, the plans to compare are Mega: $199 excl. VAT for the whole list, 100 directories, 75 of which met all of its listing rules on 21 Oct 202611 on MegaLaunch and Moonshot: $199 for 100+ directories1 on LaunchIt. Both say the work is done by hand. One more tie to know: for most of the directories on its list, MegaLaunch’s Domain Rating and followed-link data come from a LaunchIt directory report11.

Read the delays row by row: LaunchIt states when the whole package is finished, MegaLaunch states when work starts and when every submission is sent. MegaLaunch refunds an order in full if the submissions have not started12, and its largest plan adds extras such as a Premium launch and a re-check of every live listing after 30 days11. The submission service page has the details.

Frequently asked questions

Is LaunchIt free?

Yes: its Basic Launch costs $0, with a backlink to LaunchIt checked before approval1, and its documentation asks for a LaunchIt badge too3. On the day of the check, the earliest free slot was about two months away. Its Premium Launch is the paid route.

Does LaunchIt give a dofollow backlink?

Its pricing FAQ says every listing gets a standard dofollow link, server-rendered and permanent1. A public listing read for this page matched it: the link to the product site carried rel="noopener" only.

How long is the LaunchIt free queue?

Its pricing page showed the earliest free slot in about two months on the day of the check1. Premium can launch as soon as the next day. MegaLaunch’s Free listing goes live 48 hours after submission.

Can I launch on LaunchIt and MegaLaunch?

Yes, and the two can work in sequence: a quick MegaLaunch listing to collect first feedback, then a LaunchIt date booked for when the page is ready. The free plans of both ask for a link back, so plan your footer if you use both, or use the paid tier of one to skip its requirement.

How do LaunchIt’s directory packages compare with MegaLaunch’s?

Both sell hand-done submissions with a report. For about 100 directories, LaunchIt lists Moonshot: $199 for 100+ directories1 and MegaLaunch lists Mega: $199 excl. VAT for the whole list, 100 directories, 75 of which met all of its listing rules on 21 Oct 202611. The table above compares plans, delays, reports and promises row by row.

Methodology and sources

LaunchIt’s facts were read on its own pages on 24 October 2026: its pricing page (launch tiers, placements and directory packages), its launch and getting started documentation, its refund policy and its MCP page. Its link type was read in the HTML of a public listing. LaunchIt also publishes its own Domain Rating and audience figures; the audience figures are quoted as its own claims, and the Domain Rating is left out because it could not be read on Ahrefs for both sites on the same day.

MegaLaunch’s facts are generated from its code, and a live MegaLaunch listing read the same day showed rel="noopener" only on the link to the maker’s site. Matt builds MegaLaunch and wrote this comparison.

The ties between the two sites, as of 25 October 2026: LaunchIt is a product listed on MegaLaunch and appears in its sponsored placements (the strip under the header, the sidebar and the sponsor rails); MegaLaunch is listed on LaunchIt, and its homepage shows a LaunchIt badge; and DirPilot, which LaunchIt’s Premium Launch includes, is also listed on MegaLaunch. None of these ties changed a value on this page, and each LaunchIt fact links to the page it was read on.

MegaLaunch’s prices are shown excl. VAT, as everywhere on its site: tax is added at checkout based on the buyer’s country. Other platforms’ prices are quoted as displayed on their own sites, which do not always say whether tax is included, so a MegaLaunch price and another price on this page may not be on the same tax basis. Compare the totals each checkout shows before you pay.

The other 25 are replaced or dropped from an order, so an order can hold fewer submissions than the list. Prices exclude VAT. Tax is added at checkout based on your country.
